Chelsea observing Gonzalo Higuaín

Apr 29, 2012 - 11:38 AM hours
Chelsea's hopes of signing Gonzalo Higuain look to have improved after his agent asked for discussions with Real Madrid about the striker's future. The Argentina international has started just 16 La Liga games this season and is frustrated about his lack of opportunities.

He had previously indicated he was not interested in a transfer but, after he was only a substitute in the recent win over Barcelona and both legs of the Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich, the situation has changed.

He is on Chelsea's list of possible replacements for Didier Drogba and the Blues would be keen to speak to his representatives if Real Madrid indicate they are willing to sell.

Chelsea are planning a massive overhaul of their squad this summer.

The Sun on Sunday says Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain tops their £70 million shopping list.

A Chelsea source said: "Higuain is top of the shopping list.

"He has a phenomenal goalscoring record for Real and for Argentina but he helps make lots of goals too.

"He would be perfect for us, the sort of player who would thrive in the Premier League."

AS understands that Chelsea have made an offer to Real Madrid to sign Argentina international Gonzalo Higuaín. Although the quantity of the bid submitted by the Premier League club – now managed by former Madrid coach José Mourinho – has not been disclosed, ‘Los Blancos’ are holding out for a fee of around 40 million euros. The player himself has already confirmed his ex-boss’s interest in him, telling his closest advisers: “Mourinho wants me there”.
