Man City market values: Àlvarez and Rodri rise in value, but a big drop for De Bruyne
After winning the treble in a historic season last campaign, Manchester City haven’t quite started where they left off and currently sit fourth in the Premier League table. However the quality of their squad can’t be doubted and in the latest Premier League market value update, Pep Guardiola’s team saw a €29 million increase in squad value (the most in the Premier League) taking their value to €1.29 billion - the highest in world football and the club’s personal highest since April 2020.
The five biggest market value increases at Man City:
Rico Lewis | €20m to €38m: Rico Lewis made his England debut aged 18 in November, and it was indicative of his start to life with the Man City first-team. The full-back, who is capable of inverting or even playing in midfield has been one of the standouts of a, compared to the usual meteoric standards of late, an average start to the season for the Sky Blues. Lewis’ €18m increase was not only the biggest for the champions, but the biggest in the entire Premier League.
Julían Álvarez | €80m to €90m: Julián Álvarez has become a stalwart of Pep Guardiola’s star-studded City team this season, playing primarily just off of Erling Haaland in a central role. He has scored eight goals in 22 games this term and has also registered eight assists. The 21 year old has already seen his market value rise from €28 million, when he joined Man City, to €90m in the latest Premier League market value update, and could have his eyes on becoming the first South American in the English top-flight to hit a value of €100m.
Rodri | €100m to €110m: Man City without Rodri is like a clock without its mechanics - they simply don’t tick. This season Man City have lost three Premier League games - Rodri missed all of those three matches due to suspension. The Sky Blues are actually unbeaten this season, in all competitions, with him in their starting eleven. He is simply instrumental to the frightening rhythm and tempo Guardiola’s treble winners create, and was rewarded with another upgrade to take his value to €110m - only three players in the Premier League are worth more.
Oscar Bobb | €5m to €10m: Young Norwegian Oscar Bobb has played his way into the periphery of Guardiola’s juggernauts. He has featured nine times for Man City this season and even scored in the Champions League. Bobb also made his Norway debut this season and the 20 year old marked it with a screamer from the edge of the box.
Jérémy Doku | €60m to €65m: In Man City’s 6-1 demolition of Bournemouth earlier this season, Jérémy Doku equalled a Premier League record of hitting four assists in one game. The tricky winger has been explosive since his move from Stade Rennais this summer, tormenting full-backs, and has often displaced Jack Grealish as the regular starter on the left-wing.
The five biggest market value decreases at Man City:
Kevin De Bruyne | €70m to €60m: Kevin De Bruyne has played just 23 minutes of football this season, after aggravating a muscle tear he picked up in Man City's Champions League final win over Inter Milan last June in the Premier League opener against Burnley. The Belgian playmaker has the third most assists across the top five leagues in the last five seasons, and has been a huge miss for his team this campaign, but entering the twilight of his career, De Bruyne's best days may be behind him.
Jack Grealish | €75m to €70m: After becoming one of the key players in Guardiola's treble winners during the business end of last season, Jack Grealish has become very familiar with sitting on the bench this term, thanks to the instant impact of Belgian winger Doku. The 28-year-old Englishmen has started just five Premier League matches for Man City this campaign.
Sergio Gómez | €13m to €10m: Since Sergio Gómez signed for Man City from Anderlecht for €15m in the summer of 2022, he has played just 344 Premier League minutes. Signed essentially as back up in the left-back position, Guardiola's transition in play to primarily use a natural centre-half in the left-back role has seen Gomez' opportunities to get on the pitch limited. A January loan move could be on the cards for the Spaniard.
Nathan Aké | €42m to €40m: Nathan Aké became an integral player in last season's trophy-glittered season for Man City, playing at both left-back and centre-half, but there are no guaranteed starting places in City's ultra competitive defence, with so many world class options available.
John Stones | €40m to €38m: After a sensational campaign last season for John Stones, in which he inverted into midfield, and looked like he'd played there his whole life, injuries have disrupted the English centre-half this time around. The 28 year old has played just 373 minutes in the Premier League this season.

Manchester City continue to dominate European football when it comes to trophies and squad market value, boasting the best around by some distance - their squad value of €1.29b is €180m better than second placed Arsenal, who have a squad value of €1.11b. The Sky Blues' rise this time around also sees them reach their own personal highest squad market value since April 2020, and their very own Haaland remains the world's joint most valuable player alongside PSG's Kylian Mbappé.
