Steve Bruce is trying to steal a march on Arsenal with a £12million bid to sign Bordeaux's Marouane Chamakh for Sunderland.
The Morocco striker, also tracked by Tottenham and Aston Villa, is seen by Arsene Wenger as a possible replacement for Emmanuel Adebayor, although the manager remains confident his Togo forward will stay at Arsenal.

Bordeaux coach Laurent Blanc explained in Friday's press conference that Marouane Chamakh could stay with the French champions if he has not left by 22nd July. The Moroccan has been linked with Arsenal and Sunderland.

Jean-Louis Triaud, the Bordeaux president, has denied that the French champions have received a £13 million offer from Sunderland for Marouane Chamakh. The Morocco forward has one year left on his contract and is wanted by Arsenal, should Emmanuel Adebayor leave.

Glaube auch nicht, dass Chamakh zu Sunderland wechselt...
Dafür ist er viel zu gut und hoch talentiert..Arsenal würd ich immer noch für die beste Option halten, aber auch nur wenn Adebayor wechselt
